15″ diameter drum shades are suitable for smaller floor lamps, medium-large table lamps (approximately 15″ tall), hanging over smaller dining tables and dinettes, and in medium-sized rooms. They are great on end-table lamps that bookend living room couches, and are suitable for hanging as pendant lamps in kitchens and bedrooms. 15″ dia. pendant shades are available with diffusers. As with all of our shades, we make the large size drum shade in any color/pattern/lanyard combination, in different heights, and with several pendant lamp options.

Whether the shade has strong, bold colors or muted tones, the simple lines and clean geometry of a drum lampshade makes it perfectly-suited for contemporary lighting applications. The strong geometric shapes of midcentury modern design have widespread and deep influence on contemporary design. Art Deco design in the 1930s had already done away with fussy ornamentation and elaborate embellishment, and the young industrial designers of the 1950s for the most part kept the idea of form follow function foremost in their design aesthetic. Contemporary design has a similar concern for these essentials, and what’s old is new again. The 1950s drum lampshade style is contemporary once again.

On my specific lamp the distance from where the shade would sit (where finial screws on) to the bottom that i want covered is approx 9″. I cant tell from any of your pictures, is the wire piece on the shade that is held in place by the finial, is that right at the top of the shade? or somewhere lower in the middle?
ThanksGood question, and we need to make this clearer on the site. For shades to be used with a harp or bulb adapter, our shade fitters are flush to the top of the shade. For use with Euro fitters (1.5″ dia. threaded phenolic sockets), our fitters are recessed 1.5″.
